South Korean actor Jang Dong Joo has shocked fans after suddenly announcing his retirement from acting through a heartfelt social media post shared on May 15, marking an unexpected end to his career only months after signing with a new agency.

In his emotional statement, Jang reflected on his years in the entertainment industry, describing his time as an actor as “the brightest moments” of his life. He shared that every experience of laughing and crying in front of the camera would remain unforgettable memories to him.

The actor also expressed sincere gratitude toward directors, staff members, and fellow actors who trusted and supported him throughout his journey. Most importantly, he thanked his fans for always standing by his side and giving him strength and happiness during his acting career.

Jang then confirmed that he has decided to step away from the entertainment industry and officially end his life as an actor. Although he is leaving the stage behind, he emphasized that he would never forget the love and support he received from fans over the years.

Jang Dong Joo made his acting debut in 2017 through the drama School 2017 and later appeared in productions including My Strange Hero, as well as films such as Honest Candidate and Count.

Earlier this year, he signed an exclusive contract with Management Run following a difficult period in which fans had expressed concerns over his whereabouts. He had also previously revealed that he suffered major financial losses due to a mobile phone hacking incident.

Because of those past challenges, news of his sudden retirement has left many fans emotional and heartbroken.

I have lived as an actor for a long time and received so much love and support. All the moments of laughing and crying in front of the camera were the brightest times of my life.

I sincerely thank the directors, staff members, and fellow actors who believed in me and worked with me despite my shortcomings.

Above all, thanks to my fans who always stayed by my side, I was able to walk this path happily until now.

Today, I am stepping down from my life as an actor. Although I am leaving the stage, I will never forget the hearts you have given me.

I am sorry to everyone who supported me, and thank you sincerely for loving actor Jang Dong Joo until now.”
