Fans Keep an Eye on Kai's Revelation About EXO's Current Membership Amid Questions Surrounding CBX's Return
Kai’s brief comment about the current number of EXO members is stirring up discussions online, as fans question whether the CBX unit might be drifting further from a full-group comeback.
This controversy unfolded during the SBS variety show Uh, But Like, Seriously!, which aired on Monday. During the episode, the cast jokingly expressed their desire to be guest performers at EXO's upcoming world tour.
When host Lee Sang-min mentioned that Kai will kick off EXO's concert in April, Kai confirmed that there is an actual world tour planned. However, when his fellow cast members attempted to be guests, he playfully responded, “Don’t get your hopes up.” He added, “It’s a secret; the concert might even be canceled,” waving his hands dismissively with a laugh.
The conversation continued, with Tak Jae-hoon jokingly asking Kai to take him along, while Lee Sang-min encouraged him to give the show's team a chance to join. Kai responded carefully, saying, “I’ll just say one thing; I’m also in the process of renegotiating my contract,” which sent the cast into laughter and playful teasing.
However, the most talked-about moment came from a simple question when Tak Jae-hoon asked, “Besides you, how many members are there currently in EXO?” Kai replied, “Right now? Five.” This response suggests that he was counting himself, bringing the total to six members.

As soon as the show aired, Kai's words became a hot topic among fans online.
Originally, EXO debuted under SM Entertainment as a 12-member boy group but later adjusted to 9 members after three Chinese members left the group. However, after a contractual dispute between the agency and unit members Xiumin, Baekhyun, and Chen, the trio has not participated in group promotional activities recently.
For this reason, EXO has been conducting activities lately in a 6-member format.
Kai’s mention of “six members” has led some fans to speculate that a full reunion, including CBX, may be less likely, especially while the legal dispute involving the three members and their agency remains ongoing.
Online reactions are mixed, with some agreeing and others questioning, wondering if this means “are there now officially only 6 members in EXO?” Meanwhile, some fans are jokingly suggesting other individuals to add to the roster.
While it remains unclear whether Kai's comment refers only to the current situation or hints at the group's long-term direction, this brief statement has reignited interest in the potential full-group comeback of EXO.
