Korean Rapper Jerry.K Passes Away at 42 After Battling Serious Illness for Over Two Years, Marking the End of an Era for Socially-Conscious Hip-Hop
South Korean rapper Jerry.K has passed away at the age of 42 after a two-year battle with severe brain cancer known as Glioblastoma. His family confirmed the news of his death today (April 27).
Born in 1984, Jerry.K graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in Communications. He debuted in the music industry in 2001 as a member of the rap duo Loquence alongside rapper Makesense, a friend he had known since high school. He later became an original member of the hip-hop team Soul Company and continued to create music as a solo artist.
His first full album, The Erlking, released in 2008, expressed views on human nature and social issues through straightforward and unembellished language, earning him the titles of "critic" and "Ma Wang" within the hip-hop community.

In 2011, Jerry.K founded the independent label Daze Alive and continued to work in the music industry. He became well-known as a rapper who often reflected and critiqued various social issues in Korea through his sharp perspective.
He received a nomination for Best Rap & Hip Hop Album at the 12th Korean Music Awards for his third album, Reality, Enemy, and was nominated for Best Rap & Hip Hop Song at the 14th Korean Music Awards for his track Call Center from his fourth album.
In 2020, he released his fifth full album, HOME, which conveyed stories about healing and tranquility in everyday life.
The funeral will be held at Severance Hospital's funeral hall in the Sinchon area, with the burial ceremony scheduled for April 29.
